Small zebra pleco - beautiful, peaceful and easy to maintain
Peckoltia compta, code L134, is also known as Tiger Pleco for its contrasting yellow and black stripes. Native to the Rio Tapajós (Brazil), this small Loricariid is highly prized for community aquariums and well-planted Amazonian tanks. The specimen shown here is an adult male, recognisable by its more developed odontodes on the cheeks and pectoral fins.
A calm, nocturnal fish that is territorial with its fellow fish. It should be kept alone, in pairs or in small groups (in a large area). Likes to hide in caves or hollow roots during the day. Allow a minimum of 80 litres per fish.
Omnivorous with carnivorous tendencies:
This fish likes soft, well-filtered, well-oxygenated water. Avoid nitrate peaks. A water conditioner is recommended when changing water.
Provide dark hiding places (ceramic tubes, roots, stacked rocks) and a neutral substrate. Compatible with plants such as Anubias, Microsorum and Bucephalandra. Lighting should be subdued or indirect.
