Ancistrus sp. "L519" is a rare, undescribed variant of Ancistrus from the Orinoco basin (Colombia/Venezuela). It is characterised by a dark colour with small white or light blue spots and a very peaceful temperament. Perfect for planted aquamascapes, Amazonian or community tanks, even small ones.

Behaviour & care

A calm, discreet and useful fish, the Ancistrus L519 spends its day grazing on algae on windows, decorations and plants. It can be kept alone, in pairs or in small groups in an aquarium of at least 80 litres. Territorial between adult males: provide enough hiding places if several individuals are living together.

Diet

Essentially herbivorous and detritivorous, they feed on algae, biofilms and food scraps. Supplement its diet with bottom pellets, poached vegetables (courgette, spinach) and spirulina. Avoid excessive protein foods (risk of bloating).

Soft, clean, well-oxygenated water promotes growth and longevity. Add a natural root (mopani or mangrove) to enrich its environment and aid digestion.

Decor & environment

Choose a fine or neutral substrate, roots, ceramic or stone hiding places, and natural plants to shade certain areas of the tank. Moderate lighting and good mixing are ideal.
