Rocio octofasciata "Electric Blue" is a selected form of the famous Jack Dempsey from Central America. This variety is distinguished by its brilliant metallic blue coat and calmer temperament than the wild form. Young, it is sociable and adapts well to medium-sized community aquariums.

1. Behaviour & care

Curious, territorial when mature. It should be kept in a well-filtered aquarium of at least 150 litres, with rocks, roots and open areas for swimming. It likes slightly warm, calm water. Provide a decor with hiding places and shaded areas.

5. Reproduction

Depth on open substrate. The couple cleans a flat stone before spawning. The parents vigorously protect the eggs and fry. Slightly acidic water and a temperature of around 28°C are conducive to success.

With robust, calm fish: Geophagus, Severum, Synodontis, large Loricariidae. Avoid small fish or aggressive species. In large colonies, it is possible to keep other peaceful cichlids.
