Peaceful ornamental dwarf crayfish for community aquariums
The Mexican dwarf crayfish(Cambarellus patzcuarensis) is featured in our freshwater world. It is suitable for well-equipped community or special aquariums with plenty of hiding places.
A calm and relatively peaceful species, native to Mexico, it likes a stable, well-filtered, oxygenated aquarium with plenty of hiding places (roots, stones, tubes, dense plants). It needs a tank volume of at least 40 litres (group). This dwarf crayfish can cohabit with small, lively fish from open water, avoiding very slow or long-finned fish. Use starter bacteria and check your parameters regularly with water tests.
Omnivorous / detritivorous, this species accepts pellets, sticks for crustaceans, pellets for bottom fish and natural foods. Vary the ration with our adapted foods to support colour and vitality. You can supplement with poached vegetables (courgette, cucumber, spinach, etc.) and small frozen prey. Remove uneaten leftovers to preserve water quality.
Before introduction, treat the water with a water conditioner. Efficient filtration(suitable filters) and regular maintenance(maintenance equipment, weekly water changes) guarantee a healthy environment.
Choose an aquarium substrate such as sand or fine gravel, suitable for burrowing, and natural plants (mosses, stem plants, Anubias, Java ferns). Look after the lighting with our aquarium lighting and add decorations (roots, rocks, hiding places) to increase the number of hiding places.
