Poecilia wingei is a small species native to Venezuela, closely related to the guppy(Poecilia reticulatus). The female is larger and more sober than the male, and is perfectly suited to life in a community aquarium or breeding tank. It is a robust, sociable and very active species.

Calm, gregarious and very lively. Keep in groups of at least 6, with a ratio of one male to two or three females. The aquarium should be well planted and have shaded areas and free space for swimming.

Viviparous: the female gives birth to 15-30 fry after a gestation period of 3-4 weeks. The young develop easily in a well-planted tank. Very prolific and easy to breed.

Excellent cohabitation with small, peaceful fish: Corydoras, Rasboras, Neocaridina shrimps and other micro-fish. Avoid aggressive or predatory species.
