The Japan Blue Guppy(Poecilia reticulata) is a strain from Asian breeding farms renowned for its metallic blue dorsal line, contrasting with a pale yellow tail, transparent or lightly coloured depending on the strain. Highly appreciated for its brilliance under LED lighting, it is easy to maintain and breeds abundantly.

Behaviour and maintenance

Like all guppies:

• Very sociable and peaceful
• Continuous reproduction: gestation period of 3-4 weeks with frequent litters
• Must be kept with several females (1 male for 2 to 3 females)

Feeding

Omnivorous:

• High-quality flakes or granules
• Artemia, daphnia, worms (live or frozen)
• Spirulina and poached vegetables (spinach, courgette)

• Temperature: 22 - 26°C
• pH: 6.8 - 7.5
• GH: 8 - 20 °dGH
• KH : 4 - 12 °KH
• Conductivity: 250 - 500 µS

Suitable for well-decanted tap water with conditioner if necessary.

• Dark substrate to bring out the metallic colours
• Floating plants and roots to calm the environment
• Avoid aggressive roommates such as beards or cichlids
