African dwarf aquarium frog – peaceful and distinctive
The Hymenochirus boettgeri leucistic, also known as the leucistic African dwarf frog, is a small fully aquatic species perfectly adapted to life in the aquarium. Its delicate appearance and light colour make it a fascinating animal to observe in a peaceful community aquarium.
This frog is peaceful, social and mainly nocturnal. It thrives in a small group of 2 to 4 individuals in an aquarium of at least 40 L. It prefers relatively shallow water (20 to 25 cm) and a layout with plenty of hiding spots and natural plants.
Avoid keeping it with fast or aggressive fish that could stress it or outcompete it for food.
Hymenochirus boettgeri is carnivorous. It feeds on small live or frozen prey: bloodworms, artemia, daphnia, or specialised pellets for amphibians.

Before adding the animals, treat the water with a suitable water conditioner to neutralise chlorine and heavy metals.
Provide a fine, soft substrate to avoid injuries to the feet, as well as natural plants to help the frog feel secure.
It particularly appreciates calm areas with low flow, with roots and rocks forming shelters.
