Chinese high-fin banded shark - for large aquariums and ponds
Myxocyprinus asiaticus, also known as the Chinese high-fin banded shark, is an ornamental carp native to China (Yangtze River basin). The specimens on offer measure around 5.5-6.5 cm and are still young. As adults, this species becomes very large and is best suited to large aquariums and ponds. It is presented in our freshwater world and fits in well-equipped aquariums or pond-type installations.
A generally calm and gregarious species, best kept in groups of several individuals where there is sufficient volume. They like well-oxygenated water, a good current and a large surface area. Make sure you have a powerful, stable filtration system: use starter bacteria and check your parameters regularly with water tests.
Omnivorous to herbivorous, Myxocyprinus asiaticus accepts flakes, pellets and natural foods. Vary your ration with our adapted foods (pellets for carp, plants, frozen supplements). For dense planting, consider aquarium fertilisers to support plant growth.
Before introduction, treat the water with a water conditioner. Efficient filtration(suitable filters or external filtration/basin) and regular maintenance(maintenance equipment) guarantee a healthy environment.
Choose a non-cutting aquarium substrate and robust natural plants. Look after the lighting with our aquarium lighting and complement it with appropriate decorations, while preserving plenty of swimming space.
