Small, brightly coloured schooling fish for planted aquariums
Celestichthys margaritatus 1.5-2cm (Celestichthys margaritatus), also known as the galaxy rasbora or celestial pearl danio, is offered in our freshwater section. It is particularly suitable for well-equipped, planted aquariums of small to medium size.
A peaceful, rather shy species from Asia (Myanmar), Celestichthys margaritatus appreciates a stable aquarium with efficient filtration, good oxygenation and gentle flow. It should be kept in a school of at least 8–10 specimens to reduce stress and encourage natural behaviour. Provide a volume of at least 40–60 l (school), densely planted with shaded areas. Use starter bacteria and check your water parameters regularly with water tests.
This small omnivorous fish readily accepts fine flakes, micro granules and finely chopped frozen foods (brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops). Vary the diet with our suitable foods to support colour and vitality. Very small live foods (brine shrimp nauplii, microworms) help stimulate its natural hunting behaviour. Offer several small meals per day and remove uneaten food.
Before introducing the fish, treat the water with a water conditioner. Efficient filtration with gentle circulation (suitable filters) and regular maintenance (maintenance equipment, weekly water changes) ensure a healthy environment. This species is sensitive to nitrite spikes and sudden parameter changes.
Choose a dark aquarium substrate and plenty of natural plants (mosses, fine-stem plants, dense bushes). Floating plants help diffuse the light and make the school feel secure. Provide quality lighting with our aquarium lighting and complete the layout with suitable decorations (roots, rocks).
