WIO McDonald Lake nano boulder
A striking colorful boulder that creates a unique riverbed impression. The boulders vary in color from dark red to maroon, and from green to blue and black. Lake McDonald is the largest lake in Glacier National Park in Montana, USA. One of the most striking features of this lake is the presence of a variety of colored rocks and pebbles just below the water's surface and on the shores.
The colored stones of Lake McDonald are entirely the glory of the planet. The color of the pebbles is due to the iron content in sedimentary pebbles and the degree of oxidation. So, for example, where iron was in close contact with air, red colors predominate. But green colors are typical of rocks formed at great depths, where oxygen is very limited. Initially, rocks were formed over millions of years and, depending on the conditions, acquired those very amazing colors. Then, during the Ice Age, these lake rocks were crushed into small colored pebbles by giant ice blocks. Streams of meltwater brought colored stones into the valley, which was filled with glacial drains.
